The race for No. 2 went down to the wire. Now Mark Melancon Jersey , who is the third-best prospect in the White Sox system?"Last year, after a belated start to a crowdsourced Top Prospects listing, we promised to make this a “rite of spring,” starting, say, on February 1.OK, so we missed the target by a few days. At least it’s not by a few weeks. Here’s how last year’s wrangled out — all 42 picks. Also, here’s an archive of every article in the 2018 series. In order to get as many names as possible on the ballot, we’re going to run a list of 25 players out for each round, with combined 2018 stats to help you out in your decision-making process. By starting this fan vote series and the list of Top 100 Prospects simultaneously, by the time the SSS staff list has counted up from 100 to 50, this SSS poll vote will have counted down from 1 to 50. We’ll meet in the middle, with the SSS poll vote factoring in the order of our final 50 prospects.A final note: All copy below the poll Deion Sanders Jersey , unless otherwise noted, comes from wsm’s Deep Dive series. Credit due. YOTH is just running the polls.Sound cool? Now, get voting! The race for No. 3 was a barnburner — through 300 votes, Dylan Cease led Michael Kopech by one vote. But Kopech got a late kick of support, and eked out the win by eight votes. Kopech was named the White Sox’s No. 2 prospect by SSS readers for the second straight year, with 44% (155 or 356 votes). Last year, Kopech won with 75% of the vote.South Side Sox Top White Sox Prospects for 2019Eloy Jim nez — 86% (Kopech 3% [11 votes], Cease 3% [10], Madrigal 3% [9], Robert 2%, Zavala/Basabe/Bush 1%, Adolfo/Burger/Burdi/Dunning/Hansen/Medeiros/Rivera/Walker 0% [1], Collins/Gonz ez/Hamilton/Johnson/Lambert/Pilkington/Rutherford/Sheets 0% [0])Michael Kopech— 44% (Cease 43% Alen Hanson Jersey , Robert 7%, Madrigal 5%, Dunning 1%, Adolfo/Basabe/Burger/Collins/Hansen/Rutherford/Stiever 0% [1], Burdi/Bush/Gonz lez/ Hamilton/Johnson/Lambert/Medeiros/Pilkington/Rivera/Sheets/Stephens/Walker/Zavala 0% [0]) ... this time in indy ball here in Chicago."Carlos Zambrano’s Cubs career ended badly, with him stalking off the field after allowing five home runs to the Braves August 12, 2011 and saying he was “retiring.”The following offseason Theo Epstein traded him to the Marlins, where he had a mediocre season and was let go. Since then, Zambrano has pitched in Triple-A for the Phillies, and in a couple of winter leagues, with little success. Now, Big Z is making another attempt to come back to baseball, this time with the independent league Chicago Dogs. He was in Marlins Park Monday night visiting:Gordon Wittenmyer’s article says that Zambrano’s life “changed” after he attended a Christian youth conference in Venezuela several years ago Edgar Martinez Jersey , and that he thinks it’s his “calling from God” to pitch again:This seems like a quixotic quest, but if Big Z can really throw 95 miles per hour again, and throw strikes? He’d certainly get big-league teams interested in him. Even though Zambrano has been out of the big leagues for almost seven years, it should be noted that he’s six days younger than Ben Zobrist, and several pitchers his age or older are still in the big leagues. Among those are Adam Wainwright, Pat Neshek, Oliver Perez, CC Sabathia and Fernando Rodney. Please note that I am not suggesting the Cubs sign Zambrano, though I’m pretty sure they’ll at least send a scout to a Chicago Dogs game to check him out. Wittenmyer’s article says Z will be in Chicago for a physical May 2 and the Dogs season begins May 17.If nothing else, Zambrano’s presence ought to help the Dogs sell some tickets.
